The Cat’s Meow Celebrates 20 Years!

Meet some of our long-standing guests

[column type=”2-3″ first=”first” ] Nestled in the Perth countryside, The Cat’s Meow began as Lanark County’s best kept secret– a single-purpose cottage catering to just a few local felines. But over the years, the news spread that The Cat’s Meow was indeed the cat’s meow and the place to send your special four-legged family members. In fact, we now features two luxury cat “hotels,” exclusive 100 sq. ft. private cage-free accommodations and huge cedar decks. The fact that people will drive great distances to bring their cats to a spot that doesn’t make it on to most Ontario maps says it all. If you make the drive to Maberly Ontario you just might be lucky enough to meet a few of these great cats! [/column] [column type=”1-3″ ]

Merit

Merit - The Grande Dame of the Cat’s Meow
The Grande Dame of the Cat’s Meow

Merit is the 20-year-old grande dame of The Cat’s Meow. She was one of the very first kittens to prance through our doors when The Cat’s Meow first opened. As her name attests, this cat is deserving of special attention. She staked her spot, room #1, when she first arrived. As a VIP, the premiere spot is reserved for her and she claims it every time she comes to stay at the Inn! Merit is already somewhat of a media celebrity as her caretaker, Maureen Pegg, would feature her and sibling Belgium in the weekly Perth Courier column “The Private I”.

Oreo

Oreo changed the lives of two people when she was left to them in a will

Oreo was living in Perth with her elderly owner and was accustomed to spending her vacations in style at The Cat’s Meow. When Oreo’s owner passed away at the age of 93 she made provisions in her will that Oreo should be inherited by her daughter and son-in-law. The only problem: neither of them had any past experience with cats! Well Oreo easily charmed them and soon they were taught how to love and spoil this special cat. Oreo continues to spend her vacations at The Cat’s Meow as her new caretakers are happy to make the drive from Ottawa to ensure she continues to receive the quality of care and comfort at our cats-only hotel.

Trigal

Trigal as a wee kitten

Trigal derives her name from the Spanish word meaning “field of wheat”. Looking at the photo of her when she was a wee kitten you can see how that word comes to mind – especially considering the ear tufts! Trigal is now part of a large and growing family. When her owner, a French teacher in a private school in Montreal, was planning her sabbatical this year she valued the fact that her kitties could spend time in a place they know with people they have grown to love. Her kitties will be spending several months in one of our 100 sq. ft. cage-free luxury suites. The 6 hour drive from Montreal is well worth the peace of mind.
